The art of poi is a fundamental element of the Heads Adrift experience. When the sound of music combines with the visual patterns of poi, the result is a fully immersive, hypnotic, audio-visual experience. This experience can be deeply profound and even mystical to the inebriated mind.
My own experiences have led me to consider very seriously the idea that the poi patterns are a language beyond words. You can take this theory one step further and imagine that the person spinning the poi may actually be serving as a tool for an unseen intelligence that is trying to communicate to us using patterns.
Is this too much for a rational mind to swallow? I guess you have to experience it to believe it. Many ravers have had such experiences when observing light shows.
